The Ghana Education Service (GES) has concluded investigations into a feeding incident at Savelugu Senior High School following the circulation of a video on social media in January.

According to the Service, the findings revealed that students were scheduled to be served jollof rice with eggs for supper on the day of the incident, but the supplier failed to deliver the eggs. School authorities nonetheless served the meal without the eggs, assuring students that double the protein would be provided at a subsequent meal.

Management of the GES described the decision to serve the meal under the circumstances as unacceptable, stressing that alternative arrangements should have been explored.

The investigations further established that the headmaster of the school was absent at the time, having obtained prior approval from the Municipal Director of Education.

GES also disclosed that the incident occurred on a day when the school’s dining hall had been booked for a New Patriotic Party (NPP) event in the constituency.

During the event, a party member reportedly took advantage of an administrative lapse to record and circulate the video, which later went viral.

The Service stressed that the incident was an isolated case resulting from inadequate supervision by school leadership at the time and does not reflect the school’s usual feeding arrangements.

As part of corrective measures, GES said it has taken the necessary disciplinary action, with the Municipal Director of Education temporarily assigned to oversee feeding arrangements at the school.

Management assured parents, students and the general public that the provision of adequate and quality meals for students remains a top priority for the Ghana Education Service.
